Some Traditional Indian Painting Styles

In the previous section, I wrote about some of the traditional painting styles from India, such as Pichwai, Madhubani and Pahadi. What exactly do they look like? Let us take a look at some sample images. Below images were generated using Thumbsnap or Stable Diffusion 2.1. With over 12 different major art forms, it will be difficult to do justice to them, but I hope that the below images should give a fair idea on the 'look and feel' of these paintings. In the Glossary or Definitions section (last Chapter of this book) I have included a list of the most well known painting styles of India that might provide a bit more background on these different styles.

#Painters from India

Raja Ravi Verma is one of the most well known painters from India, and K Venkatappa, Jamini Roy, and Nandalal Bose are some other artists of repute. I have tried generating images in their painting style over the past few weeks, in order to help generate a small library of images by these artists. At lexa and other sites, you can find several images in the style of Raja Ravi Verma, whose paintings around Indian mythology form the late 1800s are very popular.

K Venkatappa, Nandalal Bose and Jamini Roy created most of their works in the first half of the previous century. As a small trivia, the Art gallery in bengaluru is named after K Venkatappa.

Raja Ravi Verma was one of the most prolific painters from India in the 20th century. His paintings have influenced creators over the past several decades. A thought came to my mind, "What if Raja Ravi Verma were to experiment with the different imaging styles and options that AI Imaging can offer?" I fired up Supermachine site and tried out a few prompts and styles. Half an hour later, this video was born.
